2008 Band Camp Schedule

2008 Band Camp Information!

Your attendance at band camp is MANDATORY. Putting on a successful show takes time, and band camp is the most important time for learning this year's show. If you are unable to make any of the band camp dates, please contact me ASAP and I will see what I can do.

Absences must be approved by Mr. Graichen, and you are expected to make up the time lost through independent work (preferably with a section leader, captain, or drum major). Fill out an absence request form as soon as possible (at least one week in advance) if you NEED to miss anything.

Drum majors, Colorguard captain, and section leaders will meet Friday, August 15th at 9:00 AM. This will give us a chance to go over responsibilities, expectations, policies, and show information.

The first full meeting for all members of the 2008-2009 Marshwood High School Marching Hawks will be at 12:00 pm on August 15th in the band room. Please be prepared for indoor music rehearsal as well as outdoor marching rehearsal.

There will be a break for lunch each day from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. This hour will be a good chance to rest up during these long days. I prefer that you bring a lunch from home, but you will be permitted to leave campus to get lunch. You have an hour and a half, so don't rush!!! If there are any problems with people leaving during camp, then that privilege will be revoked. Be smart!

Unless otherwise told, please be prepared for both indoor and outdoor marching rehearsals EVERY DAY.

  • We will be out in the hot sun for much of the day, so dress in loose cotton clothing that is easy to move in.
  • Also, please wear sunblock (on your lips too, wind players!), and consider wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.
  • It is strongly suggested that you bring along a water bottle for breaks.
  • Sneakers or tennis shoes - NOT SANDALS - must be worn to marching rehearsals (socks, too!). This is for your safety: it wouldn't be any fun to sprain your ankle before the season even starts! Feel free to bring along your sandals for the music rehearsals - I probably will, too - but when you are marching you should be in supportive athletic shoes (a.k.a Sneakers).
  • You must also come prepared with your instrument (in working order and with extra reeds, if applicable) every day. If you are in need of a school instrument, let me know ASAP and we will take care of it. Equipment will be provided for drumline and colorguard members.
  • Music and drill will be handed out during band camp. After these are handed out, you are expected to come prepared with all of your music and drill each day. EVERYONE (except drumline and colorguard) must have a lyre and flip folder for their instrument. Drumline members will each have a binder that they are responsible for bringing to every rehearsal.
  • If you have a lyre for your instrument, please come prepared with that. There will be some for sale, or I can order one for you, but it would be easiest if you come with one. If you want to purchase equipment through our Boosters-run supply shop, click on the order link on the left.
Here's a checklist for you to use when getting ready for each rehearsal.

That should do it for now. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
